ChicaPC-Shield™ detects and destroys malware and restores PCs in minutes
BOCA RATON, FL — March 28, 2011 —ChicaLogic (www.chicalogic.com), a leading provider of technology solutions that are intuitively created and designed with a woman’s needs and workflow in mind, today announced the release of ChicaPC-Shield™, a free anti-malware solution designed to protect PCs from malware attacks typically found on social networking sites and other websites that cater to women. ChicaPC-Shield™ can detect malware, isolate the threat and purge it from Windows-based PCs and laptops in minutes.
Late last year, Panda Security released a Social Media Risk Index that shows Facebook was the leader in malware threats at 71.6 percent, YouTube came in at 41.2 percent and Twitter recorded a 51 percent risk for privacy violations. And 33 percent of SMBs who typically have security technology in place for their users report financial losses to their business as a result of social media-based malware infection. According to a new study from comScore, more women use social networking sites and spend more time on these sites than men do. The study concluded that 76 percent of women spent time on social media sites compared with 70 percent of men, and women spent 5.5 hours a month on these sites compared to only 4 hours a month for men.
Security experts estimate that new malware is unleashed into cyberspace every 15 seconds, with a profusion of threats forecasted to target consumers via social media sites, URL shortcut services and other related sites and services; more than two million malware threats were recorded last year alone.
“When you track the expansion of malware infections from social networking sites each month with the statistics on how much time increasing numbers of women use these sites, it isn’t hard to connect the dots about the threat of malicious attacks to women’s PCs,” said Lori Fraijo Raygoza, president and CEO, ChicaLogic. “Security experts estimate that new malware is unleashed into cyberspace every 15 seconds, with a profusion of threats becoming even more prevalent in times of global crisis.
According to a warning released by the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) on March 11, 2011, there are “potential email scams, fake antivirus and phishing attacks regarding the Japan earthquake and the tsunami disasters. Email scams may contain links or attachments which may direct users to phishing or malware-laden websites.” The warning continued, “Phishing emails and websites requesting donations for bogus charitable organizations commonly appear after these types of natural disasters.”
