Let it Snow on Google

If you haven’t been using the main Google homepage for your search queries lately, it’s time to start! Well…unless you don’t have some time to kill — quite often there will be something fun going on in the Google homepage. Typically it will have something to do with the current or upcoming holiday, or a special occasion (such as the Sesame Street anniversary), or something just for fun. Typically it is centered around the Google logo above the search box on the page.

Right now you can make it SNOW on the Google homepage.  It’s hidden, so you have to type “let it snow” (without the quotation marks) in the search box on Google.com and then press enter. Snowflakes will start falling down your screen, and the snow will accumulate along the sides until it all reaches the center, and you’ll have a “defrost” button appear to clear the snow from the screen.

If you have a custom background on your Google homepage you won’t see the “Doodle” (what Google refers to the changing logo as), until you press the little icon near the Google logo that will remove your background and show you the latest doodle. It’s a lot of fun, and very festive!  Here’s a gallery of all the best Google “Doodles”.  http://www.google.com/doodles/finder/2011/All%20doodles. Do you have a favorite?

I especially love when the doodle is interactive and clicking on the different letters or different areas gives you changes in the logo. Sometimes you can even create your own music! Be sure to check the main Google homepage every once in a while when you have some time on your hands.
