SCAM ALERT: $100 Costco Gift Card on Facebook

A brand new scam has hit the Facebook streams of your closest friends. Last time it was Cheesecake Factory, today it’s Costco. The link claims to be giving out $100 Costco Gift Cards for people who click the link. If you click it, you see that 1294 are left — then it starts counting down, and then if you exit and click again, the countdown starts again at the same point.

Just a quick reminder that NOTHING is free, especially on Facebook. If you have clicked, make sure to change your password to your Facebook account and your email address. Run a scan on your computer using ChicaPC-Shield™, and if you gave them your cell phone number too, check with your carrier to ensure you weren’t charged any fees (reports are circulating that it’s generating a $9.99 charge on your cell phone bill).

Please don’t pass along this scam to your friends and family!

Here is an example of what the scam looks like on Facebook, when shared by a friend of yours.
