How to Increase Your Internet Speed

We’ve come a long way from dial-up internet service, where you could paint your nails while waiting for a page to load. But now we’re spoiled and faster isn’t quite fast enough.

Each time you visit a website, your browser will keep all sorts of goodies from the site, including cookies, form data, and downloads. These files can slow down your computer. Here’s some ways to get your internet speed a boost:

  • Make sure you have the latest versions of the Internet browsers you are using.
  • Scan your computer frequently with good Anti-Virus, Spyware, and Adware removal programs. All those yucky things can bog down your computer.
  • Take a moment each week to clear out your cache. This will delete your history of sites visited, and the files and cookies collected from each one.

In Explorer, go to Tools>Internet Options>Browsing History>Delete Cookies. Then select Settings to decide how long you want to keep things in your history.

In Google Chrome, go to Tools>Options>Under the Hood. Then select Clear All for your history, and then decide how long to keep things in your history.

In Firefox, go to Tools>Clear Recent History. Then go to Options and select what you want Firefox to delete, what to remember, and for how long.
