PC Shortcut Key Combinations for Microsoft Word

Ctrl + A                      Selects the entire contents on the page

Ctrl + B                      Boldfaces the selected text

Ctrl + C                      Copies the selected text

Ctrl + E                      Centers selected text

Ctrl + F                      Opens the “Find and Replace” window

Ctrl + I                       Italicizes the selected text

Ctrl + J                       Justifies the selected text

Ctrl + K                      Opens the “Insert Hyperlink” window

Ctrl + L                       Left-aligns selected text

Ctrl + M                      Indents paragraph

Ctrl + P                      Opens the “Print” window

Ctrl + R                      Right-aligns the selected text

Ctrl + T                      Creates a hanging indent

Ctrl + U                      Underlines the selected text

Ctrl + V                      Pastes previously selected text (use this in conjunction with Ctrl+C for the most efficient way to copy and paste)

Ctrl + X                      Cuts the selected text

Ctrl + Y                      Redo the last action

Ctrl + Z                      Undo the last action

Ctrl + Shift + F            Opens the Font Window

Ctrl + Shift + >           Increases the font size of the selected text in 1-point increments up to 12 points; then increases by 2-point increments

Ctrl + Shift + <           Decreases the font size of the selected text in 1-point increments from 12 points and lower; decreases font size in 2-point increments above 12 points

Ctrl + ]                       Increases the font size in 1-point increments

Ctrl + [                       Decreases the font size in 1-point increments

Ctrl + Shift + *           Shows or hides formatting symbols

Ctrl + <left arrow>      Moves cursor one word to the left

Ctrl + <right arrow>    Moves cursor one word to the right

Ctrl + <up arrow>       Moves cursor to the beginning of the paragraph

Ctrl + <down arrow>   Moves cursor to the end of the paragraph

Ctrl + Del                   Deletes word to right of the cursor

Ctrl + Backspace         Deletes word to left of the cursor

Ctrl + End                  Moves cursor to the end of the document

Ctrl + Home               Moves cursor to the beginning of the document

Ctrl + Spacebar           Resets the selected text to the default font

Ctrl + 1                      Single spaces the lines of text

Ctrl + 2                      Double spaces the lines of text

Ctrl + 5                      Adds 1.5 spacing between lines of text

Ctrl + Alt + 1              Changes format of selected text to Heading 1

Ctrl + Alt + 2              Changes format of selected text to Heading 2

Ctrl + Alt + 3              Changes format of selected text to Heading 3

Ctrl + F1                    Shows and hides the Task Pane

F1                             Opens the “Help” window

Alt + Ctrl + F2            Opens the “Open” window

Ctrl + F2                    Opens the “Print Preview” window

Shift + F3                   Changes the selected text to upper case or to lower case or to title case

F4                             Repeats the last action performed (in versions of Word 2000 and later)

F5                             Opens the “Find, Replace, Go To” window

Ctrl + Shift + F6         Switches between other open Word documents

F7                             Runs the Spelling and Grammar check of selected text or document

Shift + F7                  Opens the Thesaurus for the selected word

F12                           Opens the “Save As” window

Ctrl + Shift + F12       Opens the “Print” window

Alt + Shift + D           Inserts the current date

Alt + Shift + T           Inserts the current time
