What is a Registry Cleaner and Why do I Need One?
A personal computer is not unlike a large master closet. A master closet, particularly one with abundant shelves and hanging space, may seem like it has an endless capacity for storage. But over time, as outfits, shoes, handbags, and accessories are added, the amount of usable space starts to shrink. And unless the closet is regularly purged of unneeded and unwanted items, it will become a cluttered and unmanageable mess, making it difficult to locate necessities quickly and easily.
A computer functions much in the same way. The “brain” of the computer’s operating system is called the Windows registry—the master closet, in the example used above. The registry is the central location in the computer that records and stores information about a computer’s programs and activities. It also tells programs what to do and how to perform tasks. If the registry is not cleaned out regularly, it will eventually slow down a computer’s performance, making it difficult— even impossible—to access files, start programs, and browse the Internet. It will also make the computer more vulnerable to system crashes and harmful spyware and virus invasions.
A registry cleaner is a necessary yet inexpensive program that keeps the Windows registry, and by extension, the entire computer system running at its optimal level.
