What Is Path?

Journaling is a way to document important happenings in our lives. Pen to paper – recording what you want to remember; what is precious to you. Sometimes it’s just for ourselves, and other times we journal to create a keepsake to share with those that we love.

A modern twist on the personal journal is Path, as in “Path” of your life. Path takes journaling to the mobile age and lets you share anything you want – thoughts, music, photos, videos, and more within a much smaller, more personal network of family and friends, all stored securely in the Path cloud. If you have something major on your Path that you want to share more publicly, you can do that too easily via Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare or Tumblr.

I tried Path recently so my kids could touch base with their dad while he travels for work, rather than sending multiple emails and uploading photos like we usually do. On a trip to Boston last week, my husband began the day posting on Path when he got up, where he was traveling to that day, and thoughts and pictures that the kids loved to read and see. In return, they documented all the things he was missing at home. School events, playdates, and parties, all with notes from the kids along the way.

The more you use Path, the more it does for you. It can automatically post when you go into a new neighborhood or city, so you don’t have to take the time to journal every detail. You’re alerted when someone stops by your Path for a visit, and you can see all the comments on a particular item you’ve posted in one place. Five core emotions (smile, frown, gasp, laugh and love) allow for quick comments on Path items.

Social media sites have their place for sharing and communicating with others. Path lets you take what you share to a much more personal and private level.
