What is Spam (and How to Stop it)

That plethora of unwanted, unsolicited junk mail that shows up in your e-mail box every day is Spam. Not only is it annoying to have to sort through the mess (gee…I was always wondering where to get Viagra at a discount!), it’s potentially damaging too. It can help others steal your identity, or spread viruses and worms to your computer. How do you stop it?

Here are some basic tips to make it harder for Spammers to bother you:

  • Be careful who you share your e-mail address with.
  • Only give your e-mail address out on secure sites.
  • Don’t show your e-mail address in chat rooms.
  • If you get a Spam message, don’t respond to it. That just lets the Spammer know he has a viable address. And never click on any attachments either.
  • Download and utilize an anti-Spam software program.
While some e-mail systems now try to sort potential Spam for you, that won’t catch everything. A better idea is to also utilize a good anti-spam filter. A good one to try is SPAMfighter. SPAMfighter’s anti-spam software is a community based filter. This means that when one user receives and blocks a Spam message, it’s noted in the central server. Then that flagged e-mail is blocked by everyone else utilizing the software too.

Save the spam for the next time you visit Hawaii, where you can even get spam in your McDonald’s breakfast value meal.

Download SPAMfighter Pro for free and learn more about it here.
